The crotch fit so strange, like it was too small compared to the rest of the cut of the pants? Sizing up would have made them too large in other places.

I should have believed the other reviewers. I am usually a small, except when I need a medium, so I ordered the medium. I'm not sure how Athleta designed this one. First, this is not high-waisted...it's low. Second, very small in the waist and upper hip. I didn't trust the design enough to order another size. No more larges available, and order an XL just seems wrong especially considering that the small skirt I ordered fit fine, and the size 6 Brooklyn pant fit fine as well. We need to be able to trust sizing, and we can't with the Elation pant.
